I am normally an asshole - CP 24/7. But that thing is worth picking up. Go with ... the deity of your choice.

Practical advice: The quickest way to double your money is fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.
More jalop advice: I love Z’s, even the first gen 300 ZX. However, it is generally the least desirable in the market, and has the least aftermarket support. I’d get it, because I want one of each generation. But if it’s not an “it” car for you, pass on it and pounce on The Right One when it shows up.
Good luck, either way!

For 2500? Fuck yeah. You never find them that nice. It may not be desirable, but it’s still a fun time capsule.

Least desirable, yes. But also most affordable. And probably scheduled to rise with the rest of the 90s Japanese cars, though perhaps not as fast.

I think it will eventually appreciate at a good rate. For now, it is a nicely affordable way to get in to a nice sports car. The Shiro edition and some nice builds have shown that it has a lot of potential. Probably worth getting one now, if you’ve got the time/tools/money/space/vision to build it. I’m glad I got my ‘78 when I did. I’ve had to revisit the declared value policy because of market movements. Porsches get the headlines for ridiculous price appreciation, but there are a lot of other cars moving similarly, including and maybe especially some of the J-tin. I wish I knew what my son might want to build with me; I’d buy it now. But he’s still little, so sometimes it’s reasonable answers, like a Z or a baja bug, and other times it’s a dump truck or bendy bus (not that I’m against those projects, but...). I don’t know, you’ve got me thinking: maybe I should go ahead and get a first-gen 300 ZX now.

Do it while good ones are still around and reasonably priced. Then post about it here so I feel terrible about all my choices :D

Which, the Z/Baja, or the dump/bendy bus? :) Yeah, we’re reaching decision time on some real estate, cars, etc. and we just don’t have the time to mess with any of it. If I could figure out the storage, I’d get a few Z’s now (already passed up a few nice S30s). If I can get some things to move along, I’ll be restoring my late brother’s Z, which might help break the log-jam. We’ll see. I never truly appreciated how limited time could be, and that doesn’t seem to improve, either.

ALL! Nah definitely the Z. The rest are optional.
Time and space. Storage is as big an issue as the time. And then there’s the mone as well :( We should’ve chosen stamp collecting.

Too true! It probably will be the Z, but I like the idea of a Baja bug for my son’s first car (if he’s in to building something, otherwise he’s on his own car-wise). The space-time-money ternary plot is brutal. I really don’t know where we’ll end up. I’m not even sure where we *want* to end up. However, we don’t have any time to make a conscious decision right now. I kind of feel like we’re trained and well-equipped as paratroopers, but jumping out of the plane with nothing other than training, good gear, and (possibly unfounded) confidence. That would be fine, except the market here is high stakes and changing very rapidly right now. Big upsides, and some potentially awful downsides, while we really just wanted to do good work, raise a great kid, and enjoy the outdoors. No pressure, right?
